Most Frequently Asked Questions About Tallow Skincare

Beef tallow is rendered fat from grass-fed or pasture-raised cattle used as a natural moisturizer and skin treatment. It closely matches the fatty acid profile similar to that of human sebum, making it easily and readily absorbed by the skin for a stronger skin barrier and superb moisture retention.

Common Questions:

1. What is beef tallow skincare?
It’s rendered beef fat (often from suet) used as a moisturizer, balm, or healing agent. It’s rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, plus conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and is free from synthetic fragrances, preservatives, and parabens

2. Is it good for my skin?
Yes. It deeply hydrates, supports skin barrier repair, and delivers fat-soluble vitamins directly into the skin. CLA has anti-inflammatory properties that may help with eczema, rosacea, and other inflammatory skin conditions

3. Will it clog my pores?
No. Its comedogenic rating is 1–2, meaning it’s unlikely to clog pores. It absorbs more deeply and efficiently than plant-based oils.

4. Can it replace my moisturizer?
Yes. A single application can provide 8–12 hours of moisture, far longer than most water-based lotions (2–4 hours). It also delivers vitamins without needing separate serums

5. Is it safe for sensitive or eczema-prone skin?
Yes, when pure and free from additives. It’s gentle enough for babies, people with eczema, rosacea, pregnant, and elderly.  Always patch-test first.

6. How do I use it on my face?
Scoop a pea-sized amount press and rub gently into clean, slightly damp skin.  Use damp or wet hands to spread a thinner layer over the skin. Allow 5–10 minutes for absorption before sunscreen or makeup.

7. Can I use it under makeup?
Yes. It absorbs fully in 5–10 minutes, creating a smooth, non-greasy base for makeup.

8. How often should I apply it?
Once or twice a day is good for your skin. You may use a smaller amount in the morning and a more generous amount at night as needed for your skin type.

9. Will it make my skin smell like beef?
No. Grass fed tallow has a mild earthy or nutty scent that is light and absorbs quickly into the skin. The infusion of other ingredients and essential oils provides a very pleasant scent to our products so that you will never smell like beef even a little. However, it should be noted that tallow may turn rancid like other oils over time at which point it may have a stronger or unpleasant scent which indicates that it has expired.

10. Is grass-fed better than grain-fed?
Grass-fed tallow is richer in nutrients like CLA and vitamins, but grain-fed tallow is smoother and milder. Grass fed tallow is lower in omega 6's making it more anti-inflammatory. Overall, Grass fed contains more nutrients for the skin.

11. How long does it last?
The length of time depends on storage and usage. Balms may last 4 months or longer if kept in a cool dry location free from the addition of water or bacteria. Using a clean scoop to remove is strongly encouraged. Products may be refrigerated for additional shelf life.

12. Can I use it around the eyes?
Yes. However, one should apply gently and keep away from lid lines.

13. Does it make my face greasy?
No. A small amount soaks into the skin quickly and easily. The amount needed is dependent on skin type.

14. How long until I see results?
Results vary with skin type and condition with some noticing results in days or weeks. Deeper changes may be seen in months.

15. Can I mix it with other skincare?
Yes, however, it is always a good idea to patch test your new combination before use.
